TPIN Community,
A few days ago I posted an email alleging a suspected inpropriaty by Schilk=
e, and mentioned the Sales managers name Phil Baughman and the president An=
drew Naumann.
Let me clear this thing up, because I feel like a royal PR_ICK. Schilke di=
d not wrong me or attempt to wrong me. I was confused with the G1L large G=
bell, the one I received was the correct one, and I was also confused with=
the catoloques explanation of the horns features.
What happened was the first day (July 4th) I received the horn I blew it af=
ter warming up on the Mezzo Saprano, and I found it not slotting and pitch =
was a bit off in between registers. I immediately assumed it was the wrong=
bell, and being a trumpet player and a finatic about my equipment over rea=
cted, and implied something that was not at all true about the Schilke repu=
tation. It was after this practice session that I posted the TPIN message.
The next day I did my routine again and played the G1L at the end of the se=
ssion and low and behold the horn was perfect. It was not the horn or the =
bell, but a physical adjustment on my part with my own chops and body.
Phil Baughman and Adnrew Naumann along with all of the other people at Schi=
lke are true professionals, and the G1L they made for me is a wonderful ins=
trument, I would say the best quality wise and caftsmanship wise in my arse=
nal (out of 15 other brands, although I have not yet received my Chicago Br=
ass Works from Wayne Tanabe, this may change).
I wanted to clear the air and let the TPIN community know that I was 100% o=
ff base with that message I posted, and as soon as Schilke heard I was unah=
ppy they contacted me the next day to make good, but there was no reason to=
do so, there was nothing wrong with the G1L they sent to me. It was my ow=
n mistake and confusion, and I know the next time I order horn from them it=
will be just as great as this one.
If anyone from Schilke reads this please accept my apology, and thank you =
for the great G1L, the fantastic customer service, and the one on one atten=
tion you give your customers. You are the best trumpet manufacturers in th=
e business.

Could someone in the know please give me the following information. I order=
ed a Schilke G1L and received it on July 3rd. I ordered the G1L with a #5 "=
G" Bell (large size), a #8 "G" bell (small size), an "F" Bell and "E" bell.=
When I received it I looked at the invoice, and I saw #8 "G" bell, "F" bel=
l, and "E" bell on the invoice, however, I did not see #5 "G" bell.
Schilke ships the G1L with a "G" bell attached to the valve section, but on=
the invoice there was no #5 "G" Bell annotated, although this was a specia=
l order. ODD.
When ordering the G1L from Schilke, if the customer does not ask for a diff=
erent size bell the horn is shipped with the Standard "G" bell (medium size=
), which I believe Schilke sent to me, although I ordered the #5 "G" bell (=
large size) when I placed the order.
Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing if I received the right or wrong be=
ll because I have nothing to go by, other then calling Phil Baughman the sa=
les manager at Schilke and taking his word on it. He was the one responsibl=
e for the shipment to begin with. Schilke does not give any dimensions in t=
he Schilke Catolgue for the different bell configurations for the G1L, they=
just describe the available "G" bells as Large, Medium, Small.
I looked at the bell I received and the "G" bell does not have any markings=
, nothing no numbers not "G", just a serial number where it screws onto the=
valve section. The other bells have no markings either, just the "F" bell =
is stamped "F", but this isn't necessary because you can tell by size which=
is the "F", "E" or #8 "G" (small size) by comparing length.
Could someone tell me what the measurement is on a #5 Schilke "G" Bell, I w=
ant to know before I call Schilke and start B_TCHING. I have reason to beli=
eve they screwed up, and I put in a complaint already to Andrew Naumann pre=
sident of Schilke, because there is a 72 business hour deadline after the c=
onsumer receives the merchandise to report discrepencies. Believe me if Sch=
ilke screwed me on this bell I will get it, because I will involve the reta=
il store that ordered it for me.
When Schilke makes good (if there is a problem) I will post the outcome to =
TPIN.
If someone knows the measurement of the Schilke #5 "G" Bell (large size) pl=
ease let me know. This way I can measure the one I have. Any help will be g=
reatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Phillip DeFranco
