Granted, william, in terms of time spent versus opportunity for playing.
What I'm looking for, though, is creative ways for the trumpeter to fit
into that guitar environment.
For instance, both on a song like "Grazin' in the Grass" and on some
quieter ballads, I've had our guitar harmonize with me. Our guitarist is
intrigued by harmonies and since I work out many for the band, anyway,
I'll try some open or some muted things with the guitarist and I try and
switch the trumpet & guitar between lead & harmony. And, I try and
stretch his thoughts about what can happen.
I've done 3-part with guitar, sax, and trumpet and swirled that around,
too! Open guitar? Guitar with a damper? And how about a little violin
with trumpet? (or fiddle if you'r ein the South) There are neat things
you can do!
