Without "going down the road to riches" he might never have reached but a
fraction of the audience...

...and never inspired the next two generations.

Snooky Young is a fabulous lead player and jazz player. But I wonder how
many young players have ever heard of him... ? No slight to Snooky - he's
one of my all time favorties.

Fact is, we *need* both our "Maynards"... And our "Snooky's"

Subject: [TPIN] Maynard and poor choices

I've been a lurker on TPIN for a while and this may get me roasted but I
can't be the only one out there who feels this way.

Maynard made some incredibly poor choices going down the road to riches over
the years. To be as talented as he was and to waste it on stuff like The
Theme to Battlestar Gallactica?! Rocky Disco II (with Sylvester
Stallone???). I mean some of those albums from early 80's barely had any
real music on them! I had always hoped he would have teamed up with a more
modern day Keith Mansfield.

And one more criticism as much as I love him, on the At the Top video filmed
in the 70's what's with the squeeling double and triple high squelch stuff
anyway, I mean he sounded so much better playing in the range from high C to
double A or so because he had that HUGE CLEAN STEELY SOUND!!!
