[TPIN] relatively inexpensive trumpet wanted

If he's not afraid of ebay and can get some advice
from someone with more trumpet experience, he won't go
far wrong with a 1950's Olds. I've never paid more
than $75 for an Ambassador, and I've had some real
gems - unfortunately I just sold my scratch-finished
'53 to a guy in Canada, and I'm not about to part with
my '48. Another horn that I think is severely
underrated is the 1950's Blessing Standard. My first
horn (in 4th grade, 1970) was one of these, leprous
lacquer, funky case, and all. I took a lot of guff
from the guys with the shiny Conn Directors and Bundys
- but for purely nostalgic reasons I bought one off
ebay a few years ago for the princely sum of $25, and
it's a fine player - far better than a 1970's Conn or
Bundy. It has many of the same components and the
same bell shape as the much sought-after Super Artist,
but minimal trim. I would think he could pick up a
ready-to-rock Ambassador for $100 - $125, and a
Blessing for under $75 pretty much any time.
Good luck-
Dave
