[TPIN] Was Chet, who doesn't read at all

Well... Not to diminish the Army Band, but I've known people who picked up
that duty without even being able to play any instrument or read at all.
(My wife's former boss managed this back in the early 60's, for example - he
managed to get into band duty and get assigned in Germany, instead of going
to Vietnam. I think he played bass drum for them, or triangle, or something
like that. Quite a contrast: beer gardens and music on one side,
Ho-Chi-Minh trail and landminds on the other...)

I hate to be a mythbuster, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Chet
Baker once served in an Army band. That means with certainty he had to be
able to read music.
