You GO, boy!

More power (and grace!) to you!

Now where do we send the donations?

  All,

Please drop the discussion of moving TPIN to a Yahoo Group. It is an
off-topic thread now. As I said before - "It ain't gonna happen."

Since some are demanding reasons, here are a few.

1. From its beginning TPIN has been a part of the "free sharing of
information" philosophy of the early Internet. I am holding on hard to this
in every way both on TPIN and the ITG Web Site. I have been approached
countless times to put advertising on TPIN and the ITG Web Site. I won't do
it. I am on several Yahoo Groups and the ads drive me nuts. I know they
don't bother others, but they do me. I could probably have made a decent
amount of money commercializing TPIN. Why would I let Yahoo profit from
something I built and have given away for over a decade?

2. TPIN is SPAM-PROOF. No spam gets through the list itself. The only
POSSIBLE way you get spam as a result of posting on TPIN is ironically
through the Yahoo Groups Archive site of TPIN. Yes, TPIN is archived as a
Yahoo Group right now. In fact, about 100 people are subscribed to that
group and can only read messages, not post. This is the only place where
people posting to TPIN have their addresses posted on the web. You cannot
read the official TPIN archives without being a member, so those are secured
from web bots. For this reason I have decided to eliminate the TPIN Yahoo
Group that only archives TPIN messages.

3. TPIN is different than Trumpet Herald and Trumpet Master. It has been
around years longer. It existed before the WWW existed. It is an email
discussion list that comes to your inbox. Web-based forums are great - I
love them, but you have to go there and actively participate. Different
strokes.. Why make TPIN just like one of those many groups that work this
way already? Duh.

4. I own TPIN. It has always been hosted by the University that employs me.
I feel TPIN is an educational endeavor and I want it to bear the address of
my university and a .edu domain name both for philosophical reasons and for
the PR benefit to my university and my trumpet program. I will not give up
control of TPIN to some huge company.

Enough said? I don't want to argue these points really. I especially don't
want to argue them on the list. THIS IS NOT A TRUMPET-RELATED TOPIC. If you
MUST argue with me, do it through private email please.
