I understand people have to use them, but I'm glad I'm not one of those

Anyway, it sounds like some kind of strain to me too.  As always, if it hurts 
when you do that, 

a) you're doing something wrong
b) don't do that!

It's hard to gauge exactly what the "something wrong" might be from the other 
side of a video screen though.  Not that I'm any kind of pedagogigicator 
anyway, mind you.
