[TPIN] Air pressure injury? TMJ?

Mike and others,

I want to start by saying that I have enormous respect for Jeanne.
I've taken a lesson from her myself and she is one whom I talk to
about those pedagogy issues that I find to be particularly difficult.
Although this is subject to change, currently, I differ with her view
of this just abit.

I've talked to 2 brass playing dentists both of whom said that a
slightly forward jaw throus should not cause problems with the
tempromandibular joint. In fact. there is one school of embouchure
that says that the front teeth should be nearly even top to bottom.
That requires a slightly forward jaw position.

I do agree with jeanne that often, people's jaws are too closed.
Also, many have the opposite problem; the jaw recedes as they ascend.

I haven't done a lot of research on this yet and I do know that
Jeanne isn't alone in thinking that a forward jaw position can affect
the TMJ, but I'm not quite there yet in my own thinking.

YMMV.

Cordially,

Bryan Edgett
