I can't give an explanation of how it's done, but somewhat interesting is a
blurb that I read about George Rock of the Spike Jones orchestra fame who
had a mouthpiece bent to a point where he could play his trumpet at a right
angle. Apparently, it didn't have any major adverse effect on what came out
of the end of the horn.
