I=92m almost certain the lead player on the theme to JQ is Dalton

Smith. It doesn=92t sound like Brisbois at all, and it really sounds

like Dalton, especially on the 4 bars where the trumpets are playing

4 whole notes crescendoing, near the end. Lots (too much) of vibrato.

=20

I heard this story from a bone player of mine who knows Marvin

Stamm pretty well. Apparently they were recording the take and=20

Dalton thought it was a blown take and just stacked the A on the

end for fun.

=20

So, I don=92t know if the story is true or not, but just from

listening to the theme I=92m convinced it=92s Dalton.

Recently I have been re-introduced to the old cartoon TV series of=20

Jonny Quest through On Demand on cable. I wondered if the trumpet=20

section on that show was as I remembered it. I was not disappointed!

=20

For those of you that are not familiar with the original theme to the=20

cartoon series Jonny Quest or would like to be reminded, take a listen=20

now:

=20

The score was written by Hoyt S. Curtin and there is an interview here=20

with him, but the interviewer is a drummer and didn't ask about the=20

trumpet section:

Anyone know who the trumpet section for this might be? It was recorded=20

in the early 1960s.
