Dear friends,
Remember the words of Churchill "Never give in! Never give in! Never give
in!"
I have tremendous respect for your attitude. That you what to play the
trumpet and serve people is something to be encouraged rather than the
opposite.
Tips-
*find a good trumpeter and plays something and get some feedback. Sometimes
a slight change of equipment makes all the difference if one's tone is
actually too strident. I had a student (a new university trumpet major
recently who's tone was very uncomfortable to listen to. I slightly
different mouthpiece made an instant change in his intonation, range, and
beauty of sound. Often what is described as too loud is only a reaction to
tone.
*find and practice music that you love to play. Record yourself. See how you
actually sound. Then make it even better.
*practice at all dynamic levels - with good tone. See how soft and loud you
can play in all ranges.
None of these things needs to take too much time. Regain the joy of playing.
Play duets with a friend.
Life is to uncertain and short to lightly take significant amounts of time
from things you love and are important to you. Consider how many people you
have know who died too young (all do - no matter how old.)
I make a point of taking a day of from the trumpet every decade or so.
(*Actually
I don't*.)
Best wishes. Keep the faith.
