Please forgive me if I have missed this on TPIN, but I have just
discovered, quite by accident, that in 2003 Guy Touvron wrote a
biography of Maurice Andre (Publisher - Editions du Rocher ISBN 2
268 04785 7)
Title - Maurice Andre - Une Trompette pour la Renommee
I got my copy on Amazon.fr and have just finished reading it. it has
its stengths and weaknesses, and, for any of you who
a) don't speak French or
b) don't want to read it
I would be happy to put a quick resume and critique on TPIN. I don't
want to waste time on it if no-one is interested, so please let me
know.
As far as I am aware this is the only biography so far on the master,
in which case I am astonished it has never been mentioned in either
the ITG journal or on TPIN (but I could be wrong - though as an
Andre obsessive, I would have expected to pick it up!)
On quick taster, and the last word on the (fairly recent) thread on
TPIN re hard work v talent - a quote from M Andre himself :
"Ma reussite, je la dois a soixante pour cent de don et quarante pour
cent de travail. Meme en bossant comme un fou et bien comme il
faut, cela ne sert a rien si l'on n'a pas le don." (My success I owe to
60% gift and 40% work. Even the hardest and best-structured effort
is pointless if you don't have the gift.)
There are a few other little gems in there. Not to mention a very
large (though flawed) discography which makes fascinating reading
in itself.
