I was recently called to play a reduced version of the Wagner "Ring" The orchestration calls for 1 of each of the following: trumpet/ flug double, F horn, trombone, bass trpt, tuba, clar, flute, bassoon, oboe (all woodwinds doubling) and about 10-12 strings. I have no mental picture as to how this will work. Will the orchestration allow for the grandeur Wagner wrote? It is my understanding that this version has been done in several US cities and I'm hoping that if someone has played it, that they can give me a heads up on what to expect.
Also, I posted my concerns last week about an autistic student I am teaching. Thanks to everyone who took time to respond. Each response was well thought out, heartfelt and very encouraging to me. If I were to encapsulate the tpin sentiment, I would put it in the words of an elementary school music teacher who once said to me, " David, know when to teach the trumpet. but also know when to teach the kid." I have valued those words as I value all I have gained on TPIN.
