Simon,
The slur markings, I believe, are not actually slurs but phrase
markings. Articulate them, but don't break the phrase. Is that the part
where you are playing the theme hymn? If so, don't apologize for the
articulations there. You are it. I would tongue them for sure. The hymn
theme is sort of the climax of the whole piece.
