I've been considering buying a "vintage" trumpet just
to noodle around on and perhaps even play more
frequently depending on how it can compare to my
Bach's. Nothing extravagant or even in pristine
condition is necessary as long as it plays evenly and
the valves and slides operate smoothly. Frankly, I
don't mind if it looks like it's been through hell,
finish-wise. A few minor dents or dings are welcome as
well. Just something different besides my Bach Strad
or TR200 (which oddly plays a little better than the
Strad in the higher range). I'm not looking to spend a
large amount of money on anything to impress. I've
heard a lot about Olds Ambassador trumpets and I've
noticed a lot on eBay in decent shape. What's the word
on those, or any other vintage trumpets out there that
might suit my desire for an older horn that still has
some years of quality life in it? Which particular
brands and specific models should I keep an eye out
for?
