I can't comment on the tax case & conviction he now faces without more
facts. But I do know from friends who have been through things like
this --- that you must always be very careful (no matter how lofty your
ideals or how noble your intent) to get expert tax advise as you earn
more money. And I have been told by attorney friends that a "jury trial
is always risky." (A jury trial is when you place your fate in the hands
of 12 people who couldn't come up with a way to get out of jury duty.)

Phil briefly played in my college band with me. It was obvious even then
that he was *enormously* talented as a soloist. Concerning the case, we have
only read a paragraph or two about it. Eventually the whole thing will be
written up in the tax archives, but it is very easy to misstep when you are in a
nonprofit situation, as many of you already know. Chances are, the decision
will be appealled, but hopefully Phil will come through this all right and
be able to get back to his work and ministry.
