Wow! I thought this one was just left of on-topic to begin with, but... man. Vocalists?

Maybe the Down Beat article was too controversial. The AFM is always a touchy subject
but many of us, myself included, pay dues. I was a member with special permission at 14
to play in the Porter Tower Lions Club Band under the direction of R.W. Brown.

So, as I was reading that article I couldn't help seeing several parallels to things
happening today, not just with the AFM but also with the recording industry, and the
Internet.

So let me be a bit more blunt.

Do YOU think the recording ban of 1942 and therefore the AFM brought an end to the big
band era?

And while you're pondering that one, here are two more questions:

The loss of work for large groups hiring many musicians is obvious, so what did
musicians gain from that action?

Have we lost those gains if any?

OK, three...

What is the AFM doing today that might have the same results, good or bad?

...Steve (I never ponder depths)
