First of all: NEVER stop taking antibiotics until they are GONE!!! (otherwise the bugs build up resistance and become SUPErbugs that are really hard to beat!)...

Secondly, are you taking antihistamines? (it may not be a virus, but an allergy, my allergy symptoms are bad right now: both mold and pollen, due to the rains/sun/warm temps--seems like the little things are trying to get in their last shots before the killing frost arrives!<!!>)...

Thirdly, cold viruses can survive on ANY surface (particularly if moist) and many viruses can survive for CENTURIES (they've found viable viruses in archeological dig sites, including prions<!>)....

Spray the inside of your mpc pouch and case with LYSOL til wet, and place in sunny spot to dry....

Boil your mpc daily, swab the leadpipe with lysol coated brush, and spray down your horn with lysol, too....

And it doesn't hurt to use antibiotic gels/lotions, either....particularly when you travel a lot (as I believe you do)....

tonight should be ok...might want to use a nose spray to clear your sinuses (use about 2 hours before the rehearsal, and don't use again for at least 24 hours)...

Also, use ZICAM nose spray, throat spray and lozenges (taste nasty, but work), and OCEAN MIST (saline solution--viruses can't survive in salt water!)....

  Take Care!
  Jeanne

Today marks two weeks (!) for this cold, and I thought it was pretty much gone (nose is clear) but woke up today with another slight bout of conjunctivitis and slight throat inflammation (difficulty swallowing). Ibuprofin works wonders for the throat and I have antibiotic eyedrops (which I had stopped using after a couple days since it all cleared up and seemed in the past). My energy is largely returned. (I'm seldom sick and in 12 years I hadn't taken 5 sick days -- but last week took 5 in a row (!), so this is highly unusual).

Here's the question: did I give myself a relapse by practicing last night? I thought cold viruses couldn't really survive outside the body. I boiled my mouthpiece this morning and washed out the lead pipe with a snake and warm soap water. I have rehearsal tonight -- should I go?
