Everbody wanting to look, would have seen this comming for some years
already.
It's the 1970's all over again.
At that time it was mass production versus low scale production.
Now it's mass production versus low cost mass production.
I like to call it the China wave, and it's all about profit.
Unfortunately I'm afraid we can already depreciate the Bach/Selmer
factory in Elkhart.
All there will be left is probably the brand name(s), and perhaps a
smaller assembly workshop with a few workers.
Some skilled people will probably also break out and form their own
small companies, making good instruments in it's time.
However, right now it would be of more interest what is going on inside
the rest of the Conn-Selmer company?
What about the plants in Kennosha (Holton, Martin, LeBlanc)and in
Cleveland (Conn, King, Benge)?
Rumors tell that the Martin and LeBlanc brands are already taken off the
line?
As my former contacts have stopped responding to e-mails, I was
wondering if anybody on this list would know what's going on?
You see, Yamaha has always been part of the China wave, and are buying
themselves stronger every day.
These days they are making good horns too.
Regards,
Olaf in Oslo
P.S.
I can see a similar situation evolving in Europe too, but it's still a
few years to go before it strikes with full power.
