I'll use this quote from a recent post, about buying new trumpets or not,
to add an observation:

I got a new beginner student the last Friday, a 5th grader
who's been playing just two months. He uses his uncle's
old bundy trumpet, which is not much to look at. When I oiled the
valves, I noticed that the valve glides were metal, so I assumed
that it's got two, three or more decades under its belt.

The little student is doing very well, with a beautiful tone
and 100% interest in what he's doing, which is a beautiful
way for my week of teaching to end!

Well, after I oiled the valves, I tooted a few notes and some scales.
Holy cow!! The big sound just shot out of that thing - I could not
believe what a juicy sound it made. I told him (and his dad) that back
in the day, the idea of a Bundy was something of a joke, but I was
totally biased and never even played one - this one is a keeper!
