Just as going to the local hardware store on a Saturday morning, going to
the local music store was a rite of passage for me. There I learned the
musician's facts of life. Even though I was a kid and a budding young
musician, the owner and the adult customers who were professional musicians
(usually part timers), treated me like I was one of 'them'. Like most kids,
I wanted to try out 'new' and / or 'improved' products. Often, even the
owner was honest enough to talk me out of what I had my eye on if he didn't
think it was right for me. Maybe it's lousy business not to his benefit, but
when it came time for me to buy a new horn (and I bought more than my fair
share from him), I chose him first based on his honesty. Now that both the
local hardware store and music store have fallen by the wayside thanks to
the mega corporations, the only trumpets I can find for sale in my town are
at Wal-Mart. When spotted looking at a trumpet in the show case, a sales
representative approached me and said, "Nice trumpet. One of the best made."
To that, I told him in very audible terms that it was a piece of ****!" and
walked out. While I'm FORCED to resort to the Net to buy from the megas, it
ain't the same. There's no place like home! To add to my dismay about what's
happening to small businesses and being very familiar with the funeral home
industry, the local funeral homes that were customarily run as mom and pop
businesses are being gobbled up at an alarming rate by the mega funeral
service corporations. Nothing is sacred any more. For all that it's worth
Nanette, I'll stand by you and your product and recommend it to everyone I
know - and above all for your hard work and perseverance that made your oil
great.
