In his younger days, Satch did play for reader bands. According to a story I
once read, during a rehearsal when the band was playing a passage that was
to be played soft, Satch was blowing it super loud. The leader stopped the
band and asked him why he was playing so loud - the passage was marked 'pp'.
Don't you know what 'pp' stands for? Satch replied back, 'Yah man. It means
pound plenty!'
