I have a couple of thoughts for your quest. Mark Curry makes a TF cup that is essentially a flugel cup on a trumpet blank.
I have a Schilke flugel that is quite an odd duck, i.e. left hand bell, .460 bore, trumpet mouthpiece reciever. The horn plays wonderfully and I use it rather than my LeBlanc flugel. Ren Schilke made this in the early 1970's for one of his students. I also got the mouthpiece that Ren cut for this horn, which was a copy of an old Giardinelli. Unfortunately, that mouthpiece is too wide for me. Switching between trumpet and flugel will wear me out on a gig. Since I was playing the Marcinkiewicz Bobby Shew #1 at the time, I had Joe make a Bobby Shew flugel on a trumpet blank. I think it cost me $100. You might try that solution. It does make a very good small group type of sound. Almost cornet-like.

I play the Marc. Shew 2 for big band, blues band, and similar gigs. For small jazz groups, church, etc, I play the Yamaha Bobby Shew Jazz. Same rim (can't tell which one by feel until you blow). Deeper than the Shew 2, and similar to a Bach 5c, but much more efficient than the Bach.
The Marc Shew 2 is deeper than the 1.5, but wtill shallower than the Shew Jazz, It is still a lead piece with lots of sizzle.
Its an easy transition, as I practice on the jazz piece exclusively, and gig on the lead piece. Both have the same range for me, but less effort and more centered sound on the lead.

Hi,
I'm hoping to gather some suggestions based on your experiences here. I am closer to finding the right mouthpiece for me than I ever have before. I play a Marc. Shew 1.5 for almost everything besides church gigs. Looking for that rim size but a much deeper cup for said church gigs. I've already been in touch with Marcinkiewicz. They suggested the Shew #2 which was not what I was looking for. I'm close to calling someone to copy the rim and make a mouthpiece for me but I thought since this is a popular mouthpiece , some of you out there might have some suggestions before I go the custom route? Just looking to keep the same rim or similar and have something deeper that will sound appropriate with solo literature with organ.
Thanks for your time and replies.
~ Chris
