[TPIN] Travel difficulties.............

Interesting question. Many trumpets have two-piece bells. The natural
place for the threaded part would be where the two pieces otherwise would be
weldedtogether. I don't know what the benefit would be. When you take the
bell on the french horn off and lay it against the body you save about eight
inches in outer dimension of the case. On a trumpet you would only save two
or three (you still have to put the bell somewhere). If you carry a harmon
or cup mute you still need the bulky case.

Another advantage for soft metal instruments like Monettes would be that
they wouldn't bend as easily if you jam a mute in.

Think I've seen a trumpet with a screw-on bell flare (like some french
horns) somewhere.
Seems like a usable solution for transport?
Does anybody know what influence a screw-on bell flare will have on the
trumpets playability/performance/sound?
Where is the best (or worst) placement for the screw-joint?
