Whenever I need to do some sound "modeling" - and when I want to also enjoy
the beauty of our instrument and all its expressiveness - I pull out Leon
Merian's CD. I think that his cover of "Nature Boy" is a classic example of a
beautiful, singing style. His "When You Wish upon A Star"and "When I Fall In
Love" are also just pure, expressive beauty.

I think that Leon Merian is simply a living trumpet treasure.

I have always tried to emulate the sound of people whose work I admire. I
wish I had more opportunities to hear people live, but good recordings are the
next best thing.
