Just adding a fill or two.....

I've done the same thing with students and it IS a great pleasure. To me,
it translates to passing the torch along a little bit going back to all that
footwork we did when we were kids and embarked on all that record store
scouring. (I remember several stores in Philly, Rose Records in Chicago and Sam
Goody's in NY. Not to mention Starr Music Mart in "metro" Hickory. I think
we both wound up with a bunch of those TRIP reissues from there.....)

Here's the part that I find interesting. The Columbia stuff is farther back
in history now than the Mercury/Roulette stuff was to us, relative to their
age and the those recordings release dates. In a way it's a miracle that
they even know about the Columbia era records.

It sure wouldn't hurt the effort if EMI and Verve would cough their M.F.
catalogs up and reissue them on CD. (It is kind of fun to have students search
for the M.F. Roulette Mosaic set on Ebay though. I believe they should be
made available for future generations to own with less than a "crazy" money
investment......)

Boy with Lots of Brass still hasn't been re-released in it's entirety. Sure
it's commercial, but there's some amazing things on that record. I keep
waiting for Absolute Distribution in Spain to get it out. Sure hope they do
soon......

Regards,

Rick Price
