Think they'll ever do an MF tribute concert that's *not* a high-note
contest?
That'd be a first! I'd like to hear that, actually. I wonder if I'm the only
one?

Boy, Rich do I agree with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My early recollections of Maynard were just as much about his bebop playing
as his high note playing.
When my band did a tribute to him as a part of a concert the week after he
passed away, we played:
Slide's Derangement
Three More Foxes
Danny Boy
None of the 70's rock high note stuff. (Now I loved that too, but I don't
think Maynard would have wanted tributes to him to be just about all that
stuff.)
When we did the tribute for him at the West Chester University Trumpet Day,
I did play in a few of the "high note contest tunes," but I also played some
bebop stuff and dedicated that to him for my portion.
Maynard had so many facets to his playing that even though he was arguably
the "king" of high note players,
he was so much more than just that.
