There is one decent FM jazz station I can receive, and I suspect KXJZ
has it's own button in your car, too, Mike.. Unfortunately, jazz just
isn't that popular an art form these days. Schools are a mirror.

Ah ha, but since so many of the students have jazz band classes that the
teachers are being PAID to teach, then they shouldn't be a "mirror" of the
outside world. Those teachers should be the ones who are on a "mission" to change
the listening habbits of their students and try to get them turned on to
jazz music. That should be part of the job that they are getting paid for. If
they don't play music for the kids and then encourage them to do more
listening on their own, maybe jazz and classical music will get even less popular
than they are today.
I have said for years, that when those band parents raise WAY too much money
for marching band uniforms, some of that money should be taken to create a
listening library for the music students. Then the kids should be able to
check out the CD's ----- and if I was the band director, they would have to do
at least three one page written reports on what they have listened to -- as
part of their grade. That would sure help.
Just think how many young trumpet players might then know about Miles, and
Clifford, and Clark and Chet.
(Or Bud, and Maurice, and Phillip and Armando.)
