I have to agree with Mike.

In my travels doing clinics and concerts, I can't tell you how many 
jazz band directors never even heard of Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan, 
Clark Terry, Stan Kenton, Count Basie..... The list goes on 
forever.  They have heard of Wiynton, Chris Botti and I hate to say it Kenny G.

This is a sorry state of affairs that the "jazz educator" is clueless 
to the lineage of the art form.  I blame the teachers, not the 
students.  So again, I agree with Vax that it's our duty to pass the torch.
