[TPIN] kill bill/studio tpt equipment

I've been using plain old Holton oil for as long as I can remember. Years
ago, when I was playing for a *living* (many moons ago) I even used
unscented lamp oil (really) - the stuff you can by for about $3.00 a liter!
It worked as well as anything, I swear. Recently (prompted by posts on
this list) I tried Binak. Didn't work for me, just seemed to gum up my
valves big time... so I went back to the Holton.
Most recently, a repairman here in Tenafly NJ turned me on to an oil that's
heavier (for the valves on my picc) made by a guy here in Jersey. This
stuff is called "Hetman #3" oil - and it is synthetic. He specifically
pointed me to this because he valves on my picc need a heavier grade.
Haven't tried it yet on the old Bach Bb.
Have to admit that I'm not an equipment fanatic - and probably a bit
negligent in this arena, which might explain the crummy valves on my Bach Bb
- I probably just didn't break them in carefully enough. (I was also
working in a symphony orchestra in latin america when I first purchsed that
horn, so the incredibly hot and humid weather *might* have had a role to
play also).
Which synthetic oils do you recommend?

Have you tried the synthetic valve oils? I have found they work well and for
a long time!!

Ha! Not my fingers man, definitely the valves (this Bb is not the only horn
I play...;-).
Also, I find the Binak to be much too heavy - have tried it a few times. On
most of my horns it seems to gum up the valves. It does seem to work well
on my Getzen picc.

If the valves on your Strad are too stiff, get some of Nanette's oil and
start practising Clarke exercises. If your fingers are too weak from lack
of muscular tone, and your valves seem stiff, then more work will help both
of these challenges.
