I'm sure there will be a loss of finesse and control
but not totally for the reasons you put forth. There
is a lot of "feel" to how you play the instrument.
When you change all the equipment around the feel will
be different. I think if you handed Bregeron a "Pea
Shooter" he would still be less efficient because he
will have to adjust to the smaller bore and the higher
resistance.
Wasn't there the old story about Mendez having a new
horn built to exactly match his existing horn, except
for being less leaky? He allegedly hated it. Was
the new horn less efficient, or just different.
