There is also a very good discussion of "resonance" by Dave Krauss on this
site, which of course touches on the subject of "projection" and sound in
general. He discusses and compares trumpet playing and the "common
characteristic" among great singers that allow them to fill a hall.

At the site, click on "Video" in the lower left corner, select your speed,
then click on "The importance of..." under David Krauss.

[
[ In this discussion of sound projection I'd like put in a
[plug for Jim Thompson's
[ comments on the Yamaha website. You can find them under this link:
[
[ http://www.yamaha.com/artistmodelseries/index2.html
[
[ Click on Video then select your download speed and scroll on down to
[ the section under his name, titled "Tone, resonance, and overtones."
[
[ Basically, he states that the way to project in an orchestra is to
[ play with a sound that sits in the sweet spot of the horn --
[one that is
[ full of overtones, and has ring to it.
