I couldn't help but note the irony in this post. If you only visit American
manufacturers or hear performances of American trumpeters then of course your
favourites will be American. It's a bit like someone from Boise, Idaho, (to
pick a random example) saying "well, I've never needed to listen to trumpet
players from outside Boise, Idaho, because my favourite players are from
Boise, Idaho". But if you open your minds you will find there is a whole
wonderful world out there. I don't disagree that some of the best
manufacturers are American (I myself own 2 Bachs) and there are some
excellent American players - but there are some wonderful players who are not
American, you know. If you are a classical fan you might be missing the
delights of players like Maurice Murphy, Maurice Andre, Konradin Groth, Haken
Hardenberger, John Wallace, Sergei Nakariakov, Timofei Dokshizer, Alison
Balsom, Crispian Steele-Perkins, to name just a few. I'm sure similar lists
could be compiled for other genres.
Best wishes,
Simon
