As far as I know, it's impossible to play at any resonable volume without
using pressure. Maynard used only enough pressure to counter the force of
air he was blowing in the opposite direction. Dr. Reinhardt called this the
"hermetic seal". You can download a video of Maynard explaining this himself
from Dash-U.
Other than those videos, and an occasional article in Downbeat, there is not
much known about Maynards playing other than anecdotal stories. Again this
brings me to the question of:
"Why didn't Maynard write the definative explanation of his playing?"
