Other than those videos, and an occasional article in Downbeat, there is not
much known about Maynards playing other than anecdotal stories. Again this
brings me to the question of:
"Why didn't Maynard write the definative explanation of his playing?"

Maynard used more than "enough" arm pressure. Let's face it he used quite a
bit. But - he did counter it with LOTS of air pressure. He used to have a
joke when someone asked him how his chops were. He would flex his arm
muscles like a "Mr Universe" type guy. It was pretty funny.
As far as writing a book? He wasn't into that and his time was better spent
performing, doing clinics, inspiring young people and helping keep jazz
music alive.
