I remember having conversation with Joe Marcikiewicz (years ago) on
mpc pressure. He had Xray photos of peoples mouths while playing. He
seemed to be of the opinion that most used a fair amount of pressure.
I believe there was an article and I don't remember where it was, but
someone had done a study in England I believe. This person had a way
of measuring mpc pressure as a person played. The results were that
everybody used substantial pressure-both students and pros. Some of
the people who claimed to use little or no pressure actually used a
lot more than others. In fact sometimes it was a lot of pressure. I'm
sure I will remember it wrong, but I think it was as much as 45lbs!
Sorry not to have the info on the study, but someone here will
probably have it.
I know that in my case, excess pressure generally means less range,
endurance and flexibility. Defining what is "excess pressure" in
itself is probably another whole discussion.
