[TPIN] air flight/thanks/Vegas

Hi, Jon...

Well, I fly all the time. In fact I was on a plane last night. The advice
you've gotten is all in line with my own practices and what I observe.

Indeed, the oil is the tricky bit, and it's frankly a lot easier than it
sounds. All liquids, gells, and creams need to be less than 3 fluid ounces
each and all fit in a one-quart zip lock:

.shtm

This is only if you want to carry it on the plane. As already mentioned,
you can carry as much as you like in your checked luggage, but I'd still
recommend the zip lock since air pressure and extreme cold can cause liquids
to leak.

Knives and ANYTHING sharp, including nail clippers, are not allowed in
carry-on. Not like you're likely to hurt anyone with a nail clipper, but
again, you can most certainly check it.

Regarding the case size, I sat across from someone with a long case
yesterday. It essentially comes down to the flight crew and how full the
plane is. I agree with the advice again, carry it on, and see what happens.
In most cases if it doesn't fit in the overhead (it should horizontally, but
you'll be preventing someone else from putting something up there and it
won't likely fit under the seat in a way that the flight crew will
appreciate) the flight crew might accommodate it in a closet standing on
end.

On United, case length is 22", but not all of the overhead spaces can
accommodate it -- this really depends on the plane:

MOST flight crews are friendly and accomodating (keep in mind that I fly
about 300,000 miles per year) -- not all, but most. My flight out earlier
in the week was a flight attendant who thought he was the personal policy
setter for the FAA, and my flight back was with a flight attendant who
couldn't have been a nicer human being if she were Mother Theresa...

If this is a one-off trip, I'd say go for it. If you intend to travel more
frequently, get yourself a real travel case...

WOW,...What a bunch of AWESOME info thanks all!!!!...:) I think I'll oil
my valves and borrow if I actually need it when I get there. I'll be in
Vegas from the 17th thru the 20th. I'm pretty sure my old Benge will hold
up fine and if I need oil, I can always borrow. If anyone is out there,
lemme know and I'll see what I can do. Not planning on sleeping for a few
days...:) 20 year HS reunion.(Geez)...:) Looks like my case is about 25
inches long which means I might have to check it. Airline (the one I'm on)
says can't be longer then 19 inches. Are they really that picky?....hmmm
Wasn't a problem years ago but I guess everything changes. Thanks again
everyone for the awesome help.
