A number of you wondered where this myth started. Seems a number of years 
ago a student of Mr Jacobs who was playing in a symphony on the east coast 
had a lobe of one lung removed. Seems the word got out and changed from "a 
student of Mr Jacobs had a lobe removed " to "Mr Jacobs had a lung removed." 
BTW, the student had a successfull career and retired around age 65 and is 
doing fine.
