I would have to agree. It is worth that much money if you THINK it's
worth that much money, but IMHO, a good pro horn shouldn't break the
$3k limit (notwithstanding rarity, scarcity, age etc) The materials
and workmanship only add up to so much value. Anything after that is
marketing.

I've played on a few Monet horns and they are good. About as good as
any other $3,000 pro horn. If you want to spend extra money on
engraving, gold plating, etc, more power to you, but it just isn't
going to add anything to your sound.

Keep in mind, we are all trumpet players, and as such, we are all in
need of serious professional counseling. Need proof?
Cryo treatments
Integral mouthpieces
Heavy weight anything.
Boxes of mouthpieces on the band stand.

In the end, if it ain't happening in your chops, it ain't gonna come
out the end of your horn. I've witnessed Clark Terry sound like Clark
Terry on his own horn, then pick up a beat up piece of poop Bundy with
no name mouthpiece, and he still sounded like CT. Not because of CT
licks, but CT sound.

The horn only helps. Your sound is in your head.

BD

(I have generalized here a bit or course, but the principle if solid.)

Are these horns so delicate and fragile, that they have to be handled with kid gloves all the time? IMO, that's not really practical if you're out there playing on a regular, or even semi-regular basis.
