You'll probably get this one a lot:

1. Get a teacher. It's easy to fall into bad habits without even
realizing they are there; a good teach should be able to point them out
and correct them.

2. Read this forum. Tons of good advice available.

3. For improving efficiency, these 2 books work for me:

The Buzzing Book - James Thomson
26 Lessons in Tongue Level and Air - Eric Bolvin

4. Get other materials (books mainly) from authors such as Chase
Sanborn, Jeanne Pocius, Pops MacLachlan, Roddy o-iii<O (strange name),
David Hickman, Rich Wiley, etc. Learn as much as you can.

5. Do some ear training. I recommend Stephen Colley's TuneUp; Chase
Sanborn's Tuning Tactics and the Abersold ear training book&CD. There
are probably more good resources in this area.

6. Get out and perform - join a group in your area.

7. Have fun with it. (maybe the most important point)
