Actually, I would say there is method in the madness.
A few things to ponder:
1. Posture and breathing. Who in the list has their breathing so under
control that they don't have to give some attention to their posture?

You are right, for sure. We must think of a good posture when playing. I
am constantly on students that I see in my clinics who are slouching while
trying to play an instrument. One of the main things that I tell them is that
when I am sitting and playing trumpet, my back is NOT touching the back of the
chair. My back is nice and straight (but not tense) and I sit forward in
the chair.
When standing, I try to also keep my back straight and my legs flexed, but
not tense. (This is really important for me, since I have Arthritis in my upper
spine, which can cause lots of pain.)
Now back to the Monette thing. If I have been able to play in the upper
register with pretty fair success for the past 40 plus years, then why should I
have to learn to stand or sit differently, just to spend way too much money
on a trumpet that is too heavy for me, in order to play in the same register
that I have already had success in?? Makes no sense to me.
