At one time I was co-owner of a Mom and Pop music store. Mike was in
for some oil or something (long before he had his store) and let me try
his Monette C trumpet. I started pp and crescendoed to mf and had to
stop because he and everyone else in the store were holding their ears.
I felt I could have got real loud on it.
I no longer have a store, and visited Thompson Music a week or so ago.
Bought some valve oil and a mute. But I didn't dare try any horns. I
knew I would like the sound and not have the money for one.
He has a nice shop and his help is knowledgeable, also.
Of course, he stocks quite a bit of trumpet music, also. Had I known he
had it, and that I was going to go there, I would have purchased the
bass clef Arban book by Encore that was brought up on the list a while
ago. I thought the Carl Fischer version was not hard to read. The
Encore version is incredibly clean. Could not believe how readable it is.
I went to get my daughter some "Singer's delight", a synthetic mucous
spray. I saw it on Brass Deal website. She teaches elementary school
and had lost her voice. He didn't have it in stock Unfortunately, he
was out. But I have had two follow up emails since I was at the store
to let me know he has not forgotten about me.
I bought some ChopSaver (high priced Chap Stick) just to try it. It's
ok, but I don't know that I would pay the premium for it again. But it
sure tastes good.
