[TPIN] Getzen (Delete now if you're anti Getzen)

I agree. There are many great horns out there to choose from. I bought the
Vax model Getzen last year. Dave, at Anaheim Band Instruments was nice
enough to let me take home three horns to help me decide. They were the
Yamaha Xeno, Bergeron Kanstul and the Getzen. I took them home for a week
and played them all at rehearsals. Although they all were slightly
different in sound, I could have been happy with any of them. The
difference maker for me, as Mike said, was the valves on the Getzen. There
wasn't even a contest with the other two horns.

Here's your chance to rave about your horn. I didn't care for it as a
hobby
player. Your opinion means much more than mine.

Well, Warren, I'm not sure quite what to say here. One thing I have never
done, is come on TPIN and tried to actually "sell" my horn on this list,
and I
don't think that I should start now. And know what? My opinion doesn't
mean any more than yours does - especially to you. You have to play what
works
for YOU - not me.
Do I like my horn? I LOVE it! And know what? If you don't like it, that
is
perfectly fine. Everyone can't like every horn, or every car, or every
golf
club, or whatever. That is why there are so many different ones available.
As I said, with the "to each his own" statement, you should buy the horn
that does the most to make you feel comfortable as a player. I do seem to
remember you're saying that you wouldn't be buying a Monette any time soon,
because you couldn't afford one. I guess, that might be my one point here.
If you
did happen to find a Getzen trumpet that you did like to play, you WOULD
probably be able to afford one.
As has been said, I would LOVE to drive a Porsche or a Ferrari! (Boy,
would
I!!!!) But - will I ever have one?
Almost certainly not. I just can't afford one. So - I drive a Honda
Odyssey Van. It works great for getting all my stuff to gigs, going on
family
outings, and everything that I need it for. Wow - come to think of it, my
Getzen
trumpet is sort of like that as well. It works great for all the different
kinds of playing that I do. The valves are just beautiful. And - I love
the
sound I get on it.
Hope that is somewhat the kind of answer that you wanted.
