All,
I am getting ready to do some recording with my trumpet/organ duo and would
like to ask advise on microphone placement.
I have at my disposal 2 ribbon mics and 2 large diaphram mics by Rode. My
plan at the moment is to use the two Rodes on high stands about 20-30 feet
back from the organ pipes and separated by about 10-15 feet. These mics can
be in a cartiod, figure 8 or omni configuration. So, thinking of using Omni
to get more of the room. I would like to not have to add reverb later. It is
a big church room, but suprisingly, not incredibly reverberant.
Then I plan to use either one or two of the ribbon mics close to the
trumpet.
My hope is to have the trumpet always be present, but not overpowering the
organ or the other way around. I've heard a lot of good trpt/organ
recordings that accomplish this.. I'm just not sure how they go about it.
Alison Balsom's Bach album is a prime example of the sound and balance I
would like to get.
SO, if you have any experience with this sort of recording situation, I
would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks~!
