Ah... in that case, I would recommend having him get a descent "middle of the 
road" type mouthpiece (like a 7C or 3C) and just stick with it.  (I've 
personally always found the 5C to be problematic as an all around type 
mouthpiece, because the cup volume is pretty significant, but that's just 
me)...
