[TPIN] Bach 229 Bell Versus Bach 239 Bell

I have a Bach 229/239 screw bell set up. While I prefer the 229 overall,
the 239 is good for certain applications I come across.

The 239 has a somewhat more "compact" sound and is a little more on the
"bright" side of things. The 229 is indeed "broader" sounding and is a
little "warmer" in tone but carries very well. As for the 239 being a
"chamber" horn.....I am not in agreement with this. Both can fill the need
in such pieces as L'histoire and Pulcinella.

I also have a 239 bell on my long model Bach Eb/D and it works extremely
well for me. It is considered a "dark" horn compared to some short models
and Yamahas. I like it for Hummel, Haydn, Neruda etc. When I want a
brighter sound, I use a little shallower mouthpiece for use with organ.
