[TPIN] "Buzzing"

Cheri Cole (tptgirl), and I have been on opposite sides of a couple of the  
recent "discussions" on TPIN, but here is one we may be able to agree on.   My 
position is that "buzzing is for bees."  I realize that this places me  at 
odds with a large contingent of music educators in particular, and likely a  fair 
number of working professionals and proficient amatures as well, but my  
mentor/teacher  convinced me a long time ago that because buzzing the  mouthpiece 
alone does not produce the same "feel" as when it is in the horn,  little of 
any use is accomplished by so doing.  He taught me a set of  exercises based on 
Walter Smith's lip flexibility studies, scale studies and  interval exercises 
from Arban, that I use (takes a bit under 2 hours to  complete), if I am away 
from my practice room and materials, or which I  alternate with solos or band 
scores I am practicing, that have, as he predicted  they would, shortened my 
needed warm-up time prior to a rehearsal or  performance, to not more than 4 
or 5 minutes.
