Who needs Rugeri?
Do you play a musical instrument? Or do you perhaps even teach a musical
instrument? If you are a professional music teacher or the director of a music
school, you certainly are familiar with one of the most frequently asked
questions that is also most difficult to answer: What should my student play
next? What piece is best suited for the student at his or her present stage of
development?
What piece next?
If you have many students, this question will plague you many times every
day, almost inevitably giving you a bad conscience. No one is in a position to
make the optimal choice of educational music literature for each student at
each given moment. Provided that such a "tailor-made" piece exists, no one is
able to keep up with the vast and ever increasing number of music
publications, let alone find the time to pick from among them the perfectly suited
piece. On the other hand, it is a proven fact that the choice of appropriate music
literature is one of the most important factors influencing the motivation
of a student, as well as both his technical and his musical progress.
Financial aspects
Financial considerations are a further obstacle for finding adequate
literature. The parents have perhaps just purchased a new music book or a new volume
of an instrumental method, hoping that the author considered well what he
was writing and the order in which he presented it. The fact is that page l6
inevitably follows page 15; if simply taught in sequence, justice is not done
to the possibility that a supplementary musical selection from another source
might be much better suited to stabilize, reinforce, and consolidate the
progress just achieved.
