I enjoyed your post, and yes, I remember the Whipped Cream cover. But it
sure brought to mind the idea of learning to play "now" vs learning to
play "then", and maybe its just me but I would sure take "now"
Since starting back up I have found such a wonderful selection of ways
to learn. One can approach learning with a lot more tools then we used
to have.
From the wonderful play along aebersold type books, to the recording
that one can do on the computer, with the ability to so easily slow
things down or speed them up.
an arugument can be made I think that when things are harder to learn,
maybe those that put in the effort learn more. But there is also an
argument that when there are more ways to learn, more people can learn.
I subscribe to SmartMusic. I don't use it every day, but I think that if
I was a jr. high or high school kid, I would sure use it a lot.
I play along with play along cd's or with rhapsody every day.
I now record myself playing with these things, and have a much better
idea of how rotten I sound.
and trust me there are lots of ways to get that other stuff that we used
to get from album covers.
I have just spent the last two hours reading Jazz Improv interviews and
articles, and got a lot out of those that was more in depth then i used
to get.
long post to get to a question. To those of you who teach, and have been
professionals. Is it a better learning environment now with all our
school and computer programs and learning CD's, or was it a better
learning environment "back in the day"
