Ah, Jon, isn't that legacy just an amazing thing?  See, we are  connected in 
a direct line of trumpet players.
John Harner was my student.  And I was a student of Don Jacoby,  Carmine 
Caruso (who John also studied with), Roy Stevens, Conte Candoli, Ren  Schilke, and 
others.  And - even though none of us will be the "next  Maynard," aren't we 
all keeping his tradition and love of jazz and trumpet  education alive?
I applaud EVERY one of us, who teaches privately, or teaches in a middle  
school, high school, college or university.  I applaud every one of us who  has 
done a clinic in a school anywhere.  I applaud every one of us who have  played 
in a concert where young people have been in the audience, and I  applaud 
every one of us who have put ourselves "on the line" and put out  a recording of 
our playing.
THAT is the legacy that I believe Maynard would have wanted from all of  us.
